Better Border Biosecurity (B3) hosts a Hui on Plant Biosecurity

The kaupapa of the hui is to improve engagement with Māori communities for whom plant biosecurity incursions have or are likely to have impacted upon. Pests and pathogens like kauri dieback (that threatens our kauri), tomato potato psyllid (that threatens potato and poroporo), and myrtle rust (that threatens pōhutukawa and mānuka) are examples of these biosecurity threats.

The hui will include presentations from Māori researchers about pests and pathogens that threaten our shores, the potential impact on taonga, and discuss when who and how to involve Māori, in the preparation, detection and response to new incursions.

The aim of the hui is to increase the understanding of Biosecurity researchers to the unique Biosecurity issues for Māori and introduce Māori to the research being undertaken by the B3 science community on native taonga and how they can influence it.
